A comparative study of Rural and Semi-rural Women’s Communication, Information, and Participation Needs in East Africa

To recommend what supports young women in their participation and to show how their voices can be amplified.,To examine how young women assess their own influence and possibilities to shape public discourse and to lobby for their own interests and needs,To identify the possible barriers (societal, cultural, religious, gender, personal) that may hinder young women’s participation in public discourse or decision-making.,To understand young women’s participation in public discourses and decision-making (including where they feel free/safe to speak and where not),To distinguish and explain the challenges young women face in terms of media literacy,To identify young women’s barriers/ challenges to the access to and usage of media, including media literacy,To identify young women’s information (including topic) needs/ interest as well as their preferred media and/ or media content,To understand the sources of information (besides classical media) and identify the type and frequency of media usage among young women,The primary objective of the study is to identify the communication, information and participation needs of young women in rural and semi-rural areas. Subsequently, the study results will be used to form the basis of DW Akademie’s project design for the innovation process / idea competition.,
