From African Cultural Constructs to Gender Equity: A Cartography of Acholi and Baganda Philosophical Frameworks on Gender Relations

2.1 Overall Qualitative Research Objective
To explore how cultural beliefs, lived experiences, and socio-cultural frameworks shape perceptions of gender roles and equity within the Acholi and Baganda communities in Uganda.

Specific qualitative research objectives
The specific qualitative objectives are:
1. Map out and explore the cultural narratives and traditional beliefs that shape gender roles within the Acholi and Buganda societies through both a systematic literature review and community engagement.
2. Identify and assess the knowledge, attitudes, and practices (KAP) related to gender roles and equity and the key factors associated with gender inequality in the Baganda and Acholi communities.
3. Examine community perceptions and lived experiences of gender inequality and equity in the Acholi and Buganda regions.
4. Identify perceived barriers and facilitators to achieving gender equity within the traditional and modern frameworks of the two ethnic groups.
5. Conduct an informative workshop with key stakeholders to co-create to Tech-friendly Gender Equality Advocacy Resources (GEAR) reflecting a response to real-life inequality experiences of women and girls; to be implemented through Whatsapp platforms and school clubs; and assess its initial effectiveness

1) To identify and describe the formal and informal institutional structures of govern-ance, charism, poverty, obedience, and apostolate that selected institutes have in place for elderly Sisters' safeguarding and care.
2) To examine elderly Sisters' lived capabilities across housing and infrastructure, food and nutrition, healthcare, participation and voice, social life or recreation, and spiritual accompaniment, as they themselves perceive and experience them.
3) To analyse how the identified structures function as conversion factors that enable or block Sisters' capabilities, and to identify the resulting safeguarding gaps.
4) To generate evidence-based recommendations for elderly-care guidelines that are ca-nonically grounded, pastorally responsive, and aligned with global safeguarding stand-ards.
