Bridges2Scale: Testing Implementation Strategies for an intervention among young people affected by AIDS

Bridges2Scale will use a two-arm Hybrid III effectiveness-implementation cluster randomized clinical trial, where we will compare two multifaceted strategies (standard vs. enhanced) for scaling the Bridges interventions (consisting of financial literacy training, peer mentorship, family income-generating , and youth development accounts). The standard implementation strategy has been applied in our prior and ongoing studies and involves educational meetings that prepare staff members to deliver Bridges with minimal disruption to site workflow. This will be compared to an enhanced strategy that will be developed using Implementation Mapping, a systematic protocol for developing implementation strategies using theory, evidence, and stakeholder input.
Aim 1: Compare the implementation effectiveness of the standard implementation strategy vs. an enhanced implementation strategy.
Aim 2: Determine the clinical effectiveness of Bridges implemented via a standard vs. enhanced implementation strategy.
Aim 3: Explore implementation processes, mechanisms, and determinants.
Aim 4: Compare the cost and cost-effectiveness of the two implementation strategies.

Assessing the Role of Maternal Social Network Inheritance in the Social Integration of Juvenile Vervet Monkeys (Chlorocebus pygerythrus)

I aim to answer the questions: how do maternal dominance rank, age, social network position, and mother-offspring proximity relate to the proximity and grooming networks of their juveniles? Does this differ by offspring sex and/or age?
I hypothesized that maternal social network inheritance occurs and differs by sex and age in vervet monkeys because of (1) mother-offspring proximity, (2) influences of maternal dominance rank and age, (3) patterns of youngest ascendency of female dominance rank in vervets, and (4) female philopatry.

PLAYFUL FUTURES: A RANDOMIZED CONTROL TRIAL OF EARLY CHILDHOOD CARE AND EDUCATION TEACHER TRAINING AND MENTORSHIP IN UGANDA

Overall aim and outcome
The overall goal of the project is “Children improve literacy, numeracy skills and develop socio emotional skills through Learning through Play.
Main research question
To what extent does the ECCE intervention improve quality and sustained learning through play and holistic development among children 3-6 years in centre based learning environments?
Specific research questions
Aim one: To improve quality of the ECCE learning environment for children three-to-six years old
Research questions:
• What is the effect of the LtP intervention on teaching practices, learning environment and development of holistic skills of children three-to-six years from ECCE centers? Is there a difference in outcomes between boys and girls?
Aim two: To improve educators’ instructional practice and implement Learning through Play activities
Research questions:
• What is the effect of LtP mentorship on pedagogical skills in ECCE classrooms? Does this differ by sex of educators?
• What is the effect of the Playful Futures LtP intervention package on pedagogical skills in ECCE classrooms?
Aim three: Coordinating Centre Tutors (CCTs) provide useful, recurrent and effective guidance to educators on LtP
Research questions:
• To what extent does Playful Futures intervention encourage effective and regular mentorship to ECCE educators in support of LtP?
Aim four: Key stakeholders have improved knowledge, attitudes and practices, and abilities to introduce and promote learning through play, including educators, parents, government officials, and community leaders
