GENETIC, PHENOTYPIC AND PHYLOGEOGRAPHICAL CHARACTERIZATION OF LIBERICA COFFEE
REFNo: A294ES

1) To understand the genetic diversity of Liberica coffee (across its natural range and in cultivation), and its correspondence to physical features (morphology), chemistry (data already available) and sensory characteristics (some data already available).
2) Elucidate patterns of genetic diversity across cultivated and wild C. liberica in Uganda.
3) Place cultivated Ugandan genotypes within a country-wide and African-wide perspective. In particular we will focus on the origin of farmed Liberica in Uganda: to ascertain whether they are from an indigenous source (i.e. one of the two forest locations in Uganda where this species has been recorded), or not. Farmers in Uganda say that this coffee travelled with previous generations from the forest. National and regional identity will be an asset for the marketing and development of Liberica-excelsa (kisansa coffee).
4) Propose a new, and much-needed, intraspecific classification for C. liberica.

Improving POC-CCA reliability and interpretation in low and high S. mansoni endemicity settings using recombinant Ab-based POC-CCAs and improved quality assurance and control
REFNo: HS2788ES

This study aims to demonstrate the performance of the new recPOC-CCA rapid test in areas of low and high schistosomiasis endemicity, in comparison to the current POC-CCA test and KK microscopy.
Objective I: The study will also evaluate the use of 1-3 calibrator samples to provide clear visual guidance to the appropriate cutoff G-Scores for the recPOC-CCA test, for the end user to use within an endemic setting.
Objective II: This will reduce batch-to-batch variations, and reduce the impact of the often subjective Trace readings around the cutoff of the test. LatentClassAnalysis(LCA)willbeperformedwiththediagnostictestsdatatoestimatethetrueinfection status of the participants, and the probability of each diagnostic test to accurately predict infection, demonstrating how LCA can improve data interpretation to support MDA program decision making.

Nutrition Assessment for Children with Disabilities and Children without Family Care
REFNo: HS2826ES

The study purpose is to fill longstanding gaps in data on nutrition and feeding for children with disabilities and children living in childcare institutions in Uganda. Our overall hypothesis is that children with disabilities and children living in institutions in Uganda have very high rates of malnutrition, face significant barriers to accessing appropriate nutrition services and support, and merit increased prioritization in policies, practices, and investments. Our objectives are to: 1. Estimate the prevalence of malnutrition, feeding difficulties, and inappropriate feeding practices among children with disabilities and children living in institutions. 2. Assess the perceived barriers to adequate nutrition and feeding among families of children with disabilities and children living in institutions. 3. Understand nutrition and feeding-related support needs of children with disabilities, children living in institutions, and their caregivers 4. Identify the gaps and opportunities in nutrition and feeding services and policies for children with disabilities and children living in institutions; and disseminate recommendations to inform relevant policies and practices.
