General objective

2.To analyse how patterns of community life affect care for hypertension and type 2 diabetes among South Sudanese refugees living in settlements and urban areas of Uganda.

The main objective of the study will be to explore the phenomenon of IWT in GKMA, how it promotes ES and develop a model that enables the preservation and eventual transfer of wealth. The study will attempt to unravel the seeming economic immobility in terms of wealth transfer and look at the challenges encountered by wealth creators/possessors in an effort to undertake wealth transfer. It will also propose ways through which wealth transfer efforts can be carried out effectively in order to promote ES.

Digital Agripreneurship Innovation to Enhance Post-Pandemic Resilience among Refugee Women and Youth in Nakivale Refugee Settlement, Uganda (Digital Agripreneur Study).

To assess the perceptions of refugee women and youth about the socioeconomic effects of COVID-19. Through focus group discussions (FGDs) with up to 40 key informants (24 women and youths, 16 refugee leaders (including village leaders and committee members, as well as refugee welfare leaders and committee members) who will be purposively selected based on gender, age and social economic status, to understand how COVID-19 affected women’s/youths’ socioeconomic status, as well as the barriers and motivators to their engagement in agripreneurship, and training needs.
To develop and implement an optimal Digital Agripreneurship innovation to enhance economic security among refugee women and youth. The Digital Agripreneur platform will be developed drawing from the data collected in Objective 1 above.
To determine the preliminary impact of the Digital Agripreneurhip innovation on the economic and food securities, agripreneurship knowledge, attitudes, and behavior. This will involve the use of technology adoption models to assessing the feasibility and acceptability. The impact on economic security will be explored using the “before-and-after” experiment. The novelty and the significance of our project is that we utilize an interdisciplinary innovation composed of face-to-face and digital learning, information support, mentors and microcredit to enhance post-pandemic resilience using participatory approaches. Our project could provide a more accessible, affordable, and innovative means of enhancing economic security, as well as digital literacy among vulnerable refugee women and youth
